GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University senior
Kaila Jacobi hit a grand slam in both games and had two home runs in the same 14-run Maverick third inning of the second game of the twin-bill as the nation's 15
th-ranked Mavericks used a pair of monstrous offensive inning to claim their ninth and tenth consecutive softball victories in dominating fashion over the visiting Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon.
The Mavericks scored ten runs in the bottom of the fourth inning of the first game, winning it 11-0. They then scored 14 runs in the third of the nightcap, just one shy of their school record set a year ago as every Maverick batted twice in the frame en-route to a 15-1 victory.
Both games were just 5-inning affairs due to the mercy rule.
CMU has now won each of their last five games in five innings, outscoring their opponents by a combined 53-1 margin while improving to 25-6 overall and to 18-3 in conference play.
BHSU fell to 9-14 overall and to 6-9 in the league.

Alexa Samuels and
AnnMarie Torres also went long as the Mavericks recorded 11 extra-base hits and 11 singles throughout the doubleheader. They also took advantage of 11 walks and were hit by a pair of pitches as they roughed up four Yellow Jacket pitchers.
Meanwhile, CMU received another gem from senior hurler
Kimbri Herring, who struck out 11 Yellow Jackets while giving up just one walk in a 2-hit shutout in the first game. She has now tossed three consecutive 2-hit shutouts over the last eight days while improving to 10-3 on the year. The reigning RMAC Pitcher of the Week also has a conference-leading six individual shutouts this year.

Kellie Mrofcza RBI groundout.
Meanwhile, Herring retired eight straight hitters and struck out the side in the top of the third while giving up just two singles, both of which were to Kindall Bethke.
The Mavericks then did their damage in the bottom of the fourth as they registered their first double-digit inning of the day on six hits and four walks.
Samuels, the reigning FPN (Fastpitch News) NCAA Division II Player of the Week, started the inning off with a triple off the left field wall before
Lauren Wedman and
Sarah Staudle, who went 4-for-4 with a walk throughout the day, both drew free passes.
Bailey Kleespies then drove in two runs with a single to center. The Mavs then continued the momentum as
Alexandria Dufour walked before, two plays before Mrofcza extended her hitting streak to 15 consecutive games with a 1-out single that scored both Staudle and Kleespies.
Leading 5-0 at the time, Torres then reached on a fielder's choice that loaded the bases before Jacobi hit her first grand slam to left center to make it a 9-0 margin.
Wedman then drew her third walk of the game after coming in as a second inning replacement for starting right fielder
Hailey Hinson before Staudle completed the run frenzy with a RBI double.
Seven different Mavericks combined for nine total hits in the game as Samuels, who was 2-for-3, and Staudle, who was 2-for-2 with a walk, helped supplement Jacobi. Mrofcza also had three RBIs.
Crystal Amaral (6-3) took the loss for BHSU after giving up seven runs, six hits and five walks in four total innings of work. She started and then came back in for reliever Darian Gottfried, who failed to record an out against five Maverick hitters during the fourth inning barrage, allowing four hits and a walk, including Jacobi's grand slam.
Game Two
The Yellow Jackets would break the Mavericks' 21-inning shutout streak in the top of the first as Bethke hit a 2-out homer to left in the top of the first.
Meanwhile, the Mavericks left two runners on in the bottom of the first and the bases loaded in the bottom of the third. However, Surface and the Maverick defense recorded a 1-2-3 inning in the top of third to regain momentum.
The proverbial floodgates then opened in the bottom half as Torres, the RMAC leader in batting average and the national leader in on-base percentage, hit a lead-off single to right before being lifted temporarily for a pinch-runner. Jacobi then hit a 2-0 pitch on the next at bat to the new Party Deck, which was officially opened earlier Saturday morning to give the Mavericks a 2-1 lead.
CMU would go on to score two more runs on RBI singles by Staudle and Wedman before Doumer took a pitch off her elbow, which loaded the bases.
Mrofcza and Torres, who re-entered, then drew back-to-back RBI walks before Jacobi hit her second grand slam of the day and her second home run of the inning to momentarily take possession of the team lead for home runs while putting the Mavericks up 10-1. The home run was her tenth of the campaign.
CMU would go on to score four more times in the inning as Jacobi and
Jordyn Hays had two hits each in what ended up being a 9-hit inning. The Mavs also drew three walks and five total free passes in the frame.
The Mavericks would then cap the scoring in the bottom of the fourth as Torres matched Jacobi with her tenth home run of the campaign to lead off the inning.
Meanwhile, Adair recorded a pair of strikeouts after coming on to reliever Surface, who allowed just four hits while striking out three Yellow Jackets in 3-plus innings of work.
The Mavericks finished the game with 13 hits as Jacobi went 3-for-4 with six RBI. Torres was 2-for-2 with two walks as her batting and on-base averages rose to .537 and .664, respectively.
Alex Wiley (3-6) took the loss for the Yellow Jackets in the circle while Bethke finished the day with three of the visitors' six total hits in the doubleheader.
The two teams will square off in another RMAC doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m.
