ALAMOSA, Colo. – Colorado Mesa won six of the 10 bouts in a 33-19 win over Adams State on Saturday afternoon in Plachy Hall in the final Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual of the season.
The Mavericks picked up three pins and a pair of forfeits on the day.
Colorado Mesa and Adams State split the first four bouts with the Mavericks earning forfeits at 125 pounds and 133 pounds before the Grizzlies earned a major decision at 141 pounds and a pin at 149 pounds.
Marc Farina earned his first collegiate dual match victory of his career with a third round pin of Josh Salas at 157 pounds. Farina, filling in for the banged up
Payton Tawater, earned four takedowns in the bout and led 11-8 when he secured the pin.
At 165 pounds,
Jason Buhr secured the lone decision of the day for the Mavericks with a 10-5 win over Koery Windham which gave Colorado Mesa a 21-10 lead in the dual.
Bruno Nicoletti followed Buhr with a third round pin of Isaac Lopez. Nicoletti was taken down by Isaac Lopez early but rebounded and led 14-2 when he secured the pin at the 6:41 mark. The senior has now been a winner in 15 of his past 17 matches having only lost to Western State's Brandon Supernaw in that span.
TJ Lodermeier earned the Mavericks final victory of the day at 197 pounds by pinning Joe Bencomo at the 6:34 mark of the match.
Colorado Mesa will send a small group to the Rocky Mountain Open tomorrow in Golden.
