COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University men's wrestlers
Juan Garcia,
Brady Samuelson and
Keyton Young were all named to the 2025-26 First Team Academic All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Team, announced by conference officials on Wednesday afternoon.
The Mavericks led al RMAC teams with their three selections.
The Maverick trio all have perfect 4.00 grade point averages and were voted on to the 10-man first team by the conference's athletic communications directors based on a combination of athletic and academic accomplishments.
They and 17 other Mavericks were also selected to the RMAC's Academic Honor Roll, which included 63 honorees.
CMU also led the RMAC with 20 honor roll selections, listed below.
Western Colorado University had the second most honorees with 12.
To qualify for the honor roll, wrestlers must have a 3.30 or higher GPA, be in at least their second year at their nominating institution and have used a season of eligibility. To qualify for nomination to the first team, athletes must have a 3.50 or higher GPA and meet the other criteria.
Garcia, a redshirt junior from Johnstown, Colorado, is majoring in public accounting. He went 7-1 this season with three pins this season and won the 149-pound title at the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open. He has a 29-23 record in his tree years at CMU after earning NCAA Division III National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-America honors at Wisconsin-LaCrosse. He then earned those same honors at CMU in 2024 before redshirting in the 2024-25 season.
Samuelson is a redshirt sophomore from Carbondale, Colorado. He is a business administration major and posted an 8-7 record on the mat at 197 pounds. He finished third at both the Mines Rookie Open and Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open and had recorded seven of his eight wins via pin.
He was a NWCA Scholar All-American in 2025 and has now been named to the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll twice.
Young, a redshirt sophomore and computer information systems major, has now been selected to the First Team Academic All-RMAC squad twice and was one of just three repeat picks from the 2024-25 team. He posted an 8-8 record in four open tournaments this year, recording four of his wins by pin.
He was also named as a NWCA Scholar All-American in 2025 and has a 30-18 career record in his three years at CMU.
All three of the selected Mavericks have helped the Mavericks win the RMAC's Brechler Award in each of the past two years, an award given to the team with the highest GPA in each conference sponsored sport. The Mavs also earned the Team GPA Award at the 2025 NCAA Division II Sports Festival.
