ALAMOSA, Colo.— The nation's eighth-ranked Colorado Mesa University women's swimming team won ten of 11 events and swept the top three places in six of them en-route to a dominating 161-44 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Adams State University in the Grizzlies' Plachy Hall Pool on Friday afternoon.
CMU had seven different individual winners and took also took maximum points in both relay events of the overall team effort, which extended their 3-season streak of consecutive RMAC dual wins to 13.
They will look to continue that streak on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock when they visit Western State Colorado University in Gunnison.
On Friday, the Mavericks got out to a quick start in the 200-yard medley relay as
Grace Payton,
Samantha White,
Danielle Jefferies and
Sierra Forbord posted a time of 1 minute, 51.21 seconds to claim win. The Mavericks' "B" squad of
Sarah Fillerup,
Ginger Bryant,
Candice Rosen and
Abbey Desmet was second in 1:53.82.
Maddie McClain then won the 1000 free in 10:58.27 while
Isabelle Hansson was second in 11:27.21.
Kennedy Bright then led a 1-2-3 Maverick sweep in the 200 free as she won in 2:00.85 ahead of
Maddie Pressler (2:01.42) and Rosen (2:03.04).
The Mavericks then took five of the top six spots in the 50 free with
Natalie Saul claiming victory in 25.25.
Danielle Jefferies then claimed the first of her first two individual wins taking the 100 fly in 58.95 as the Mavericks had each of the top five finishers. Jefferies would later win the 100 breast in 1:08.41, edging White (1:08.64).
The Mavericks also dominated the 100 free and 100 back with
Sierra Forbord leading a 1-2-3 Mav sweep of the freestyle event with a time of 53.62. She touched ahead of Saul (55.24) and Pressler (56.51). Meanwhile,
Grace Payton took the 100 back in 1:01.09 as
Celine Sargis (1:01.64) and
Jordyn Beem (1:03.25) took second and third, respectively.
CMU also went 1-2-3 in the 500 free with
Robyn Naze claiming her first collegiate win in 5:28.28 ahead of McClain (5:34.48) and Bright (5:39.33).
Forbord, Saul, Desmet and McClain then won the 200 free relay in 1:41.30. CMU's "B" squad of
Logan Anderson,
Noel Scott, Bright and Rosen finished second in 1:42.17, 5.5 seconds ahead of the Grizzlies' top squad.
