NEW ORLEANS— A dozen different Colorado Mesa University track and field athletes combined to earn a program-record 16 All-South Central Region honors, which were announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Wednesday.
The 16 honors are one more than the former record set during the 2020-21 indoor season and matched again during the 2022-23 indoor campaign.
To earn the all-region accolades, athletes must finish amongst the top five athletes from a given region on the season-long performance lists in individual events or amongst be a member of one of the top three relay teams in their region.
The Mavs are members of the South Central Region, made up of institutions in the Rocky Mountain Athletic and Lone Star Conferences.
Eight Maverick men combined for 11 total honors in seven different events while four women combined for five honors in five different events.
Teo Casados led the Maverick contingent with three honors, the fifth, sixth and seventh of his illustrious career. He was selected in the 100 meters, the 200 meters and the 4x100-meter relay alongside teammates
Marik Cummings,
Amaris Mora and
Joseph Randolph.
Randolph also picked up an individual honor in the 200 meters after doing the same during the indoor season.
Cummings and Mora are first time all-region selections.
Sophomore
Aidan Brownell and freshman
Devin Shea are also first time honoree and picked up the award in the 400 hurdles and high jump, respectively.
Seniors
Antone Higgs and
Izaak Siefken are repeat honorees with Higgs earning an honor in the triple jump after earning long jump recognition during the 2025 outdoor season. Siefken was honored in the javelin.
On the women's side,
Kaiya Graves was selected in both the discus and javelin throws after setting school record marks in both disciplines this season. The all-region honors are the first two of her career.
Kaelea Gibson also picked up her first career honor in the high jump.
On the track, sophomores
Hannah Schissler and
Kammi Merritt were recognized in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles, respectively. Schissler's honor is the first of her career. Merritt had been honored as part of CMU's 4x100-meter relay last year.
