GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Sprinters
Teo Casados and
Joseph Randolph will run in the 200 meters and represent the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks in this weekend's NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The meet will begin on Friday morning at 10 a.m. EDT (8 a.m. Mountain) in the Virginia Beach Sports Center although the Maverick sprinters will not run until 5:40 p.m. EDT (3:40 p.m. Mountain) that evening.
Should they be amongst the top eight finishers in the preliminary hets, they would advance to Saturday's 2-heat final, slated for 5:45 p.m. EDT (3:45 p.m. Eastern).

How they Qualified
The Maverick speedsters both qualified for this weekend's national meet
in the same race back on Jan. 30 at the New Mexico Team Open in Albuquerque. Randolph broke Casados' school-record with a time of 20.92 seconds and is seeded fifth for the national meet with his altitude-adjusted time of 20.99.
Casados ran to a time of 21.03 to take second in the event while also going well under his former Maverick record of 21.21 He is seeded 11
th (tie) with his altitude-adjusted mark of 21.10.
Randolph has been drawn to run in the first of four heats on Friday and will run in Lane 5. Casados will run minutes later in the third heat. He will run in Lane 3.
RMAC Champions
Both men won Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference titles a fortnight ago as they
led the Mavericks to a third place finish in the team standings at the Feb. 27-28 meet in Gunnison, Colorado.
Randolph won the 200 in a Mountaineer Field House record time of 21.45 seconds on the flat track. He also took fourth in the 60 meters with a season-best matching time of 6.82.
Meanwhile, Casados broke his own school-record in the 60 to win his fourth overall and first indoor career RMAC title in 6.69 seconds. He did not enter the 200 meters at the conference meet.
National Experience
Both Maverick sprinters have national meet experience.
Casados ran in the 200 meters at the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, where he placed 15
th in his national meet debut.
Randolph was a 4-time all-American at the NAIA level and fared well at the last four NAIA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in 2024 and 2025 while running for Olivet Nazarene University. He took second in the 2024 indoor championships and placed fifth at the 2025 meet. He also took third at the 2025 outdoor meet.
Representation Streak
The Maverick men have now qualified at least one athlete for the NCAA Indoor Championships in 12 straight seasons dating back to 2015. They have also had at least one qualifier in 13 of the 15 years of the history of the men's program, started in 2011-12.
Additionally, the Maverick men have had at least one national meet qualifier for each of the past 23 national championships, dating back to the 2014 outdoor meet.
All-America honors
Both Maverick athletes are looking to earn what would be their first NCAA Division II All-America honors, bestowed by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The organization will recognize the top eight finishers with first team honors while the ninth through 16
th place finishers will garner second team honors, a change from the past in which only the ninth through 12th place finishers garnered the awards.
Additionally, the USTFCCCA has also added a new honorable mention category for 2026, that will see the 17th and 18th place finishers in each individual event be recognized.
If either of the Mavericks can finish in the top eight, they will also earn team points to put the Mavericks in the overall standings. Those points will be awarded on a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis.

The Mavericks will begin the outdoor season at home, hosting the CMU Early Bird Open next Thursday and Friday (Mar. 19-20).
