ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Joseph Randolph and
Teo Casados both went well faster than the previous Colorado Mesa University men's indoor track and field record time in the 200 meters, the biggest highlights of an afternoon and evening of fast times for a group of Maverick sprinters on the first day of the New Mexico Team Open on Friday, which saw the Mavs take advantage of the banked track in the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Running the same heat of the invitational section of the event, Randolph finished in 20.92 seconds while Casados, the Mavs' school-record holder coming into the evening at 21.21, finished in 21.03 seconds for what is now the Mavs' second fastest indoor time in program history. The duo took second and fourth place overall, respectively, in the invitational section, which was reserved for the top seeds, and are both amongst the top five on the current NCAA Division II Championship performance lists.
Randolph, a native of Wailuku, Hawai'i, was running for the first time as a Maverick after transferring from Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois, where he was a 4-time all-American at the NAIA level.
Casados' former record time of 21.21 came at the 2024 New Mexico Team Open. He then redshirted last indoor season before claiming Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Year honors during the 2025 outdoor campaign.
