AZUSA, Calif.— Eight of the ten Colorado Mesa University Maverick runners in actions set or established new career-bests in the 1,500 meters throughout the divisions and sections of the event on Saturday at the Bryan Clay Invitational, which wrapped up here at Azusa Pacific University's Cougar Stadium.
The Mavericks had five men and five women in action throughout the day and late in to the night as seven different athletes recorded times to rank amongst the program's all-time top ten performers.
Clayton Wilson highlighted the efforts running to a time of 3:47.96 in the men's invitational division, taking over the No. 2 spot in program history. Fellow freshman
Vasileios Salpas also moved into the No. 3 spot with a time of 3:49.19 during the Open B division's heats.
Meanwhile,
Chase Brown set a new career-best of 3:55.03 and now ranks sixth in program history while
Kyle Towne sits right behind with his time of 3:57.59.
Colton White also had a 2.8-second improvement over his former best and now sits eighth at 3:58.51.
Megan Hodges led the Maverick women with a time of 4:35.70 during the evening session while
Jordan Staniszewski moved up a spot to sixth in program history with a time of 4:35.83 during the morning.
Brooke Miller also ran to a time of 4:36.91 at night while
Shirley Weaver moved into the program's top ten with a time of 4:47.81.
Wehazit Kelati finished in 4:49.87.
The Mavericks will now turn their attention to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships, which begin Friday (Apr. 24) with the start of the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon.
