Fort Myers, FL.- Colorado Mesa traveled down south to the Sunshine State for a two game series against Florida Golf Coast University to close out 2025.
The Mavs looked to bounce back after a tough two games against Mines by competing against the No. 24 team in the country, the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles. Game one was action packed with tons of goals. FGCU would start the action just over 6 minutes in but the Mavs would answer as
Marcus Ray would score his team leading 14th goal of the season. FGCU would take back their lead on the power play and add to it just two minutes later off of a bad bounce. The Mavs would get a powerplay opportunity where Ray would find Senior
Levi Krantz who would rip a lazer past the Eagles goaltender for his 3rd goal of the season. FGCU would add another goal to their lead late in the period to take a 4-2 lead into the intermission.
In the second the Eagles would add to their lead 4 minutes for a 5-2 score. The Mavs fast paced play would draw penalties where Freshman
Brian White would take over the game. On the first power play of the period for the Mavs Ray would find White on the point who would rip a shot top corner to breathe some life into the Mavericks. One minute later the Mavs would return to the power play where Krantz would find White from the opposite side of the point where White would fire an identical shot to bring the Mavs within one. FGCU would restore their two goal lead before the end of the period. In the third the Mavs would take over, as just 2 minutes in Junior Defensemen
Ethan Levesque would fire one from the point for his second of the season on a 4 on 4 opportunity. Both teams would play tighter defensively but the Mavs would get a massive penalty kill and 2 minutes later would get a powerplay opportunity of their own to tie the game. Senior
Evan Wagner would find a rebound and stuff it in to tie the game at 6. The Mavs weren't done as with 3 minutes left they would complete the comeback as Junior
Ben Pedigo would score for a final score of 7-6.
Game 2 was played way tighter as neither team was giving up big opportunities like the night before. The Mavericks would score the game's opening goal halfway through the second period where Sophomore
Connor Hassenstab would find the puck after it bounced off of the back wall and fire it home on the power play. FGCU would respond with a 5 on 3 goal in the second. The score would remain 1-1 all the way until overtime where FGCU would earn a split series. Sophomore goaltender
John Hickam would make an outstanding 48 saves to gove the Mavericks a chance.
