GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Colorado Mesa hosts Colorado College for a two game series to end the 2025-2026 season.
The final two games of the Mavericks season were over the weekend as the CC Tigers came to town. Friday night was Alumni night and the stands were filled yet again. Before the game Coach
Timothy Winegard was honored for coaching his 250th game last Sunday against Grand Canyon University. When the puck dropped the Mavs would make the first mistake with a 'too many men on the ice' penalty. CC would take advantage, scoring just 10 seconds into their powerplay to take a 1-0 lead. The Mavericks would have their chances to tie the game with two powerplays of their own, but CC would take their lead into the intermission.
The Mavericks would finally break through as Freshman
Brian White would tie the game. The period would stay tied until CC would reclaim their lead with 5 minutes left in the period. The third period is where the floodgates were busted. Junior
Ben Pedigo would score on a great feed from Junior
Ethan Levesque to tie the game but moments later CC would take back the lead on a bouncing puck 1 on 1. CC would take a penalty just after that and the Mavs would take advantage as Sophomore
Tristen Brooks would score a vintage goal with an absolute rocket from the point that painted the corner on the powerplay. Senior
Levi Krantz would give the Mavs their first lead of the game with a rocket from the point. The Mavericks would not stop with that as Pedigo would score his second and Freshman
Jacob Roggie would also score, both on the powerplay. Junior
Ryan Koch would finish off the game with an empty net goal as the Mavericks would win game 1 7-3. Goaltender
John Hickam would make an astonishing 42 saves to keep the Mavs in it before the onslaught of scoring.
Sunday's game would be the final game of the season meaning it was also Senior night. All 4 of the Mavericks seniors made it count as all found the scoring sheet in some way. Junior Tristan Brooks would have another beautiful goal off a feed from Senior Captain
Ethan Gotchey to start the scoring. Senior
Evan Wagner would add to the lead with a loose puck goal in front of the crease. White would score his second goal of the weekend to make it 3-0, and freshman
