Eight Mavs named to CSC Academic All-District® Tennis Teams

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Eight Colorado Mesa University tennis student-athletes— four men and four women— have been named to the 2025 NCAA Division II Academic All-District® teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, which recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the courts and in the classroom.

The Maverick men's selections include Emil Hultman, William Leschig, Henry Scheck and Philemon Jabin, who were all also selected in 2024.  The women's selections are Makenna Livingston, picked for the third straight year, Delia Maier, a repeat selection and first-time selections Devyn Rodriguez and Jane Steur.

Notably, Livingston was also been selected to the ballot for potential first, second and third-team Academic All-America® honors, which will be voted on by CSC members and announced on June 3.

To be eligible for nomination for Academic All-District® honors, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above, have a 3.50 or cumulative higher GPA,  and have competed in at least 70 percent of their team's team-scored events.  Institutions are also limited to four nominations from each genders.

Those advanced to the Academic All-America® ballot have both elite athletic and academic accomplishments.

Livingston, a senior from Huntington Beach, California, led the Maverick women to their best record in 11 years as the Mavs' No. 1 singles player, going 13-12 at that spot.  She was ranked as high as 33rd in the ITA's NCAA Division II National Singles Rankings and finished the year with a 15-14 overall record while garnering Third Team All-Pacific West Conference honors for the second time in her career as the only Maverick to ever accomplish that feat.

A mass communications major with a 3.71 GPA, Livingston has also already earned three Academic All-PacWest honors and is a 2-time ITA Scholar-Athlete award winner.

She finished her collegiate tennis career with 105 wins as just the 14th maverick to ever reach the century mark.  She is also one of just 13 Mavs to record more than 50 wins in both disciplines, claiming 54 doubles and 51 singles triumphs.

Maier, a junior biochemistry major from Hechingen, Germany, holds a 3.91 GPA.  She recorded 15 singles wins and teamed with Livingston for 14 doubles triumphs.

Rodriguez is a sophomore sport management major and has a 3.80 GPA.  She played mostly at No. 2 in the Mavs' singles lineup and claimed ten singles wins while leading the team with 18 doubles victories with partner Jade Brilhante as the duo received Third Team All-PacWest doubles plaudits.

Steur, a junior business administration major from Vollendam, Netherlands, has a 3.76 GPA.  She led the Mavericks with a 16-8 singles record and recorded 15 doubles victories with partner Catalina Ballon Marin.

As a team, CMU's women finished 17-13 to record their best season since 2014.  They also won their first two PacWest Tournament matches since joining the league in 2021.

The Maverick men also enjoyed their best season since 2016 and were nationally ranked throughout the spring, reaching as high as the No. 27 spot.  They were also ranked sixth in the West Region in all three sets of official NCAA Regional Rankings.

All four of the Mavs' Academic All-District® selections on the men's side are business administration majors and were starters in the Mavs' lineup.

Hultman hails from Värnamo, Sweden.  The junior has a 3.87 GPA and led the Mavericks with 18 singles wins, going 14-4 at No. 5.

Jabin is a senior from Brussles, Belgium and holds a 3.57 GPA.  He recorded 12 singles wins this season and went 11-11 in duals at the No. 2, 3 and 4 spots.

Leschig came to CMU from Buckholz, Germany and holds a 3.92 GPA.

Scheck is a junior from Camarillo, California and 3.71 GPA.  He teamed with Leschig to claim Second Team All-PacWest honors in doubles as the duo was ranked fourth in the ITA's West Region Doubles Rankings at the end of the fall.

They went 15-10 in doubles, including an 11-8 mark in duals at the No. 1 and 2 spots.

Scheck also recorded 12 singles wins, splitting time at the No. 1 and 2 spots of the lineup.
