Beyer earns medalist honors at Palm Valley Classic

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – For the third time this season, Colorado Mesa senior Cole Beyer will take home medalist honors as he shot a 6-under, 66 to hold off Midwestern State's Seth Bearden in the final round of the RJGA Palm Valley Classic on Tuesday (Apr. 8) afternoon.

The Woodburn, Ore. native played his second straight bogey free round and was able to close strong as he birdied his final two holes of the day which happened to be the par-5, No. 9 and the par-4, No. 10. The birdies on those two holes sealed the individual win as Beyer trailed with two holes to play but his opponent, Bearden, pared his final two holes of No. 8 and No. 9.

Beyer finished the tournament at 15-under, 201 which is his second-best 54-hole score of the season just four strokes behind his 197 he shot at the Ryan Palmer Invitational in October.

Sophomore Dylan Everett shot 1-under, 71 in the third and final round to finish in a tie for 30th place overall at 2-under.  Everett carded four birdies, a bogey and a double on the day. He played his final five holes to 2-under to claim the round under par.

Redshirt junior Timmy Cavarno finished in a tie for eighth on the individual leaderboard with a 7-under, 209. The 209 is Cavarno's best 54-hole score this season as he finished with three birdies, six bogeys and eagled the par-5, No. 2 in his final round.

Colorado Mesa finished in sixth place on the team leaderboard at 14-under, 850. They finished four strokes out from a top-3 finish and just a stroke behind fifth-place Cal State East Bay.

Midwestern State finished as the overall team champions at 32-under, 832.

Next up for the Mavericks is the RMAC Championships beginning on Sunday April 20 at Boulder Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nev.
