GOLDEN, Colo.— The 4x100-meter relay team smashed a school record and took second while
Brooke Miller did the same in the 800 meters to lead the Colorado Mesa University women's track & field team to a strong final day at the 2025 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships which wrapped up Sunday here at the Colorado School of Mines' Stermole Track & Field Complex.
Gaby Horton, who anchored the Mavs to a NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying time of 45.16 seconds in the relay, also took third in both the 100 and 200 meters as the Mavs tallied 15 point-scoring efforts in 12 of the 13 events contested on Sunday, racking up 59 of their 79 total team points on the third day of the meet to retain their fifth place finish in the final standings.

Kammi Merritt and Horton opened up the track portion of the day with their record-setting time that went well under the former Maverick record of 45.71 seconds. They claimed the silver medals as New Mexico Highlands University broke a 7-year old championship record by more than sixth tenths of a second to take the golds in 44.21 seconds.
Meanwhile, Miller also became the Mavs' first 800-meter conference championship medalist as she ran to a time of 2:14.33 to grab a silver of her own.
In the 100 meters, Horton ran to a time of 11.84 seconds into a significant headwind before coming back to set a wind-aided season-best of 23.78 seconds in the 200.
Sophie Lindauer placed fourth in the 400 with a time of 57.66 seconds while
Megan Hodges placed ninth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:43.83. Hodges then came back to finish sixth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:17.12.
The Mavs also fared well in the hurdling events as
Kaitlyn Pearson took fourth in the 100-meter version with a season-best time of 14.57 seconds.
Atahlia Mills also took sixth in the event, clocking a time of 14.79 seconds.
Merritt then finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.83, moving up to second in program history. She also anchored the Mavs' 4x400-meter relay team to a No. 2 program ranking time of 3:50.58, good for fifth place.
Hannah Schissler,
Lexie Williams and Lindauer also ran on that relay.
In the field,
Kylie Mayer placed fifth in the discus throw with a mark of 43.62 meters (143-1) as she moved up three spots to fourth in program history.
Christina Palmer, who broke her own shot put record on Friday, also scored, taking seventh with a throw of 43.08 meters (141-4).
Meanwhile,
Kaiya Graves claimed a team point in the javelin throw, recording a season-best throw of 38.25 meters (125-6).
The Mavs also picked up points in the high jump as
Hope Matteson and
Kaelea Gibson both cleared 1.59 meters (5-2.5) to take seventh and eighth, respectively.
The Maverick men finished fourth as Teo Casados swept the 100 and 200-meter crowns while helping the Mavs break their school record in the 4x100-meter relay.
