LONG BEACH, Calif.— After going 3-0 on their weekend trip to Arizona, the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks were named as the Pacific West Conference Women's Tennis Team of the Week, it was announced by conference officials on Tuesday afternoon.
The Mavericks defeated Western New Mexico, Arizona Christian and Ottawa (Ariz.) last Friday and Saturday in Glendale and Phoenix, raising their overall 2024-25 season record to 5-4, including a 3-2 record against fellow NCAA Division II opponents.
The Mavs defeated Western New Mexico, 4-0, and Arizona Christian, 5-2, last Friday before getting past Ottawa 4-1. Arizona Christian was ranked 21
st in the NAIA according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Four different Maverick players went unbeaten in singles play throughout the weekend with
Catalina Ballon Marin posting a 3-0 record on court five. Meanwhile,
Makenna Livingston,
Jade Brilhante and
Jane Steur all went 2-0 while each had one match left unfinished as the duals with WNMU and OUAZ were played to clinch.
The Mavs were also a combined 6-1 in doubles play and won the doubles point in all three duals. Brilhante and
Devyn Rodriguez going 2-0 in the top flight while Livingston and
Delia Maier did the same at No. 2 doubles.
The Mavericks will again be on the road this weekend and are slated to play three indoor matches in Kearney, Nebraska on Friday, facing NAIA Hastings before taking on host Nebraska-Kearney. The Mavs will then take on Rockhurst on Saturday.
