Allred sweeps RMAC Player of the Week awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University's Ty Allred swept the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors, winning both the offensive and defensive awards, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.

The 6-foot-9 redshirt senior out of Mona, Utah had also been named to the Great Western Shootout All-Tournament team after he averaged 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while recording four blocked shots and two steals in the Mavs' two games at the weekend tournament in North Las Vegas, Nevada.

Allred recorded 23 points, six rebounds, two blocks and a steal in Friday's game against tournament host Western Washington.  He then had 16 points and 13 rebounds, ten of which were defensive, to register his fifth double-double of the campaign in Saturday's 78-69 win over Simon Fraser.  He also blocked two Red Leaf shots and had another steal in that victory.

Allred, a First Team All-RMAC pick last year, is leading the Mavs in both scoring and rebounding, scoring 17.5 points and grabbing a RMAC-leading 9.4 rebounds per game.  He also co-leads the team with 11 blocked shots and is second on the team with ten steals.

The Mavericks will resume their season on Saturday, Jan. 3 hosting Regis at 3 p.m. inside Brownson Arena in Grand Junction.
