Mavs downed in RMAC semifinals

CMU must await Monday's NCAA selection show

DENVER— The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks' season-long 5-match winning streak was ended by the top-seeded MSU Denver Roadrunners, who advanced to their tenth straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament match in Friday night's tournament semifinal here at the Auraria Event Center.

The nation's ninth-ranked Roadrunners won their 16th straight match of the campaign by a 25-14, 25-17, 25-16 margin and hit .390 as a team in the victory.  They improved to 25-3 overall.

The fifth-seeded Mavs were held to a .111 mark and dropped their semifinal match for the sixth straight season while falling to 17-10 in 2025.  They must now await Monday's NCAA Tournament selection show to see if they will continue their season with what would be a fifth straight NCAA bid.

That show will air at 5:30 p.m. MST on NCAA.com.

If they are selected, they would likely be heading back to Denver in two weeks as MSU Denver is the likely regional host after entering the RMAC Tournament ranked No. 1 in the South Central Regional rankings.  The Mavs were ranked eighth but beat fourth-ranked Colorado School of Mines in the quarterfinal round.

On Friday, Sophomore outside hitter Karsen Breeding led the Maverick offensive attack with nine kills while Allison Waller recorded 20 digs in what was her third straight 20-plus dig effort.

Emma Luce also added five kills and three blocks while Aesha Alrashed chipped in six kills and two blocks for the Mavs.

The Roadrunners' Annika Helf led all players with 14 kills.  She also hit .323 and had 11 digs to record a double-double.  Brooke Gennerman also had 12 kills on .423 hitting while Alyssa Boyte was involved in seven of the Roadrunners' nine blocks.

MSU Denver, which shared the RMAC regular season title with UCCS, will take on the Mountain Lions in the tournament title match on Saturday at 5 p.m.   UCCS moved to 26-2 with a school-record extending 14th straight win in the second semifinal against CSU Pueblo.
