GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Opening up the 2025-26 season with a Saturday tri-dual, the No. 18 Colorado Mesa University Men's Wrestling Team rolled to a pair of dominant exhibition wins this afternoon over Northeastern Junior College and Colorado Northwestern Community College at Brownson Arena.
Winning by scores of 47-0 and 58-0, the Mavericks didn't allow a single point in their matches, with them only conceding one loss in an extra match bout.
Over 15 different wrestlers also competed for the Mavs with multiple making their collegiate debuts.
While the results were wins, due to them being exhibitions against NJCAA schools, the team scores do not count but do impact players' head-to-head records.
Prior to Colorado Mesa taking on the two opponents, they each faced each other in the first leg of the tri dual with NJC defeating CNCC 35-18.

Colorado Mesa 47, Northeastern Junior College 0:
Opening with a shutout victory over Head Coach Mike Mendoza's previous school, the Mavericks rolled their way to a strong win to start the day as they used four pins and three major decisions to handily beat the Plainsmen.
In addition, they also one technical fall win with the closest margin of victory in the dual being three points.
Collecting the pins were the group of AJ Hague, Juan Garcia, Brady Samuelson and Ruben Samuelson with Ruben Samuelson having the fastest time of 1:17.
Noah O'Dougherty had the lone technical fall win by a score of 17-0.
Winning in major decision were the trio of Adonias Cantu, Wil Alvarado and Christian Pebley with opponent's only managing three points against each of them. Cantu won by a score of 23-9 with Alvarado winning 14-3 while Pebley rounded out the group winning 11-3.
Tanner Stone won his bout at 133 pounds by a score of 9-6.
Following the Mavs 10 scheduled bouts, three extra matches occurred as well with Mikey Medina, Kyle Holtberg and Camden Jacobson each wrestling at their respective weights. Holtberg claimed a pin in his bout while Jacobson won by technical fall.

Continuing where they left off in dual No. 1, the Mavs then had a stronger showing against the Spartans to continue their day with them earning no less than five points in any bout, winning by either technical fall or pin in all 13 matchups, including the three extra matches.
Racking up those pins were Riley Valdez, AJ Hague, Tommy Thomas, Wil Moneypenny, Brady Samuelson and Ruben Samuelson. Hague and the Samuleson brothers won both matches they appeared in today by pin.
Earning the two technical fall wins were Murphy Harris and Juan Garcia with them outscoring opponents 42-9.
Christian Pebley repeated as a winner in this match too with his coming via forfeit.
In the extra matches, the trio of Adonias Cantu, Sammy Mobly and Braden Zack all secured wins as well. Cantu won by technical fall while the other two earned pins.
