RENO, Nev.— Brooke Miller won the 800 meters while four other individuals and the women's distance medley relay team all set new or improved times on the Colorado Mesa University indoor track & field all-time top-10 performers' lists during a strong day of distance running action for the small contingent of Mavericks on Friday here at the Nevada Invitational & Multis.
Meanwhile, a larger and more-encompassing Maverick contingent was competing in the first of two weekend meets at the Adams State University High Altitude Training Center in Alamosa, Colorado.
Miller posted a time of 2:14.88 to best the field of 17 in the women's 800, just off her own school-record time of 2:14.53 set just 48 days ago at the Western Colorado Open. She then teamed with
Kendall White,
Autumn McQuitty and
Kirstin Williams to set a second place time of 12:43.53 in the distance medley relay, the fourth fastest clocking in program history and CMU's best in nearly eight years.
McQuitty had earlier posted a mile time of 5:13.79, a mark that moves her into third in program history and more than an 18-second improvement over her 2023-24 freshman season best. The sophomore finished fifth in that event.
Williams and White were also in individual action earlier in the day, racing in the 3,000 meters. Williams finished fourth out of 21 starters in 10:21.98, just off her career-best of 10:21.73 set at last year's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships. White was right behind, placing fifth in in 10:24.66. She now occupies the No. 4 mark in program history, one spot behind Williams.
Three Maverick men also posted solid times throughout the day.
Kyle Towne finished seventh in the 800 with a time of 1:55.99, which moved him up three spots to sixth in program history.
Meanwhile,
Jackson Baker placed third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:59.16 to take over the No. 9 spot in program history. Teammate
Kevin DeGree also posted a time of 9:10.86 to complete that event for the first time in a Maverick uniform.
The meet in the Reno-Sparks Convention Center continues on Saturday.
