CHADRON, Neb. – A final victory in the 285 pounds bout by #11 Tyler Doyle would serve as the decisive winner in tonight's RMAC dual matchup as the #23 Colorado Mesa University Men's Wrestling Team would narrowly defeat the Eagles of Chadron State College in a 21-19 decision at Chicoine Center.
The undefeated Maverick's moved their win streak to seven this season as they won five out of the 10 matches in tonight's dual, with Doyle's win giving the team the two point victory. Going into the final match, the Mavs trailed 19-18, before Doyle secured the win.
In both the 125 pounds bout and the 141 pounds bout, the Mavs secured pins that were large factors in the outcome of the night. In those two weight classes, brothers #7 Dayson Torgerson and Denim Torgerson secured the only pins of the night. Dayson's came in 2:11 with Denim's coming in 2:47.
Taking the other two wins before Doyle's eventual match winner were Alex Castaneda (149) who earned a close victory by decision on a 5-2 score and #13 Gabriel Carranza (197) who won in a 9-4 decision.
Doyle's win in the 285 pounds bout came by a 10-5 decision, with him securing the win on a three-point takedown in the third period to hold out until time expired.
Chadron's wins in the dual came at 133-pounds, 157-pounds, 165-pounds, 174-pounds and then at 184-pounds by forfeit.
On the night, CMU was up 15-3 through the first four matches before Chadron went on to score the next 16 points and lead the Mavs 19-15 with only two bouts remaining. The two decision victories by both Carranza and Doyle would secure three points each to defeat the Eagles.
Following the win of the dual the Mavs also had two other exhibition matches take place with both Owen Cline and Tommy Thomas taking home victories. In their bouts, Cline would win by tech fall (17-2) in the 149 pounds weight class and Thomas would win by decision (12-9) in the 157 pounds weight class.

Following tonight's action, the #23 Mavs will wrestle again this next week when they return to Brownson Arena to host Adams State University on January 25 for an RMAC dual. The dual is slated to start at 2 p.m.
