The CMU Cycling track team traveled to USA Cycling's 2024 collegiate Track National Championship in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania. Races started on the morning of Thursday, September 12, and concluded on the evening of Saturday, September 14. The CMU team, featuring 7 female and 7 male, demonstrated their skills across a series of races on a velodrome track.
On Thursday, the Mavericks found themselves on the podium several times, taking Gold in Women's Team Pursuit (4km), bronze in Men's Team Pursuit, and silver in Women's Sprint. The team pursuit line up featured Olivia Cummins, Kate Seiler, Mia Deye, and Ella Sabo. When it was all set and done, the four girls won gold, setting a new course record, as well as a new track record with a time of 4:46.
Our men's team consisted of Brockton Smith, Will Cucco, Luke Elphingstone, and Jade Rhode, earned bronze with a time of 4:27. The Women's sprint featured Mia Deye who secured a silver medal, while Olivia Cummins earned bronze, highlighting their speed and competitive edge in a high-stakes event.
On Friday, Mia Deye took silver in Women's 500m Time Trial Final, and Olivia Cummins finished in 5th place. In the Men's Scratch Race Major Final, Luke Elphingstone achieved bronze. In the last event of the evening, Women's Scratch Race Final, Olivia Cummins also earned bronze, capping off a day of strong performances with her consistent results.
On the last day of the National Championship, Olivia Cummins excelled with a gold medal-winning time of 3:38, demonstrating her dominance and skill in the final Women's pursuit event. She also added a silver medal to her collection in the Women's Point's Race Final. With the last event of the tournament being the Co-Ed Team Sprint Final, The CMU team, including Luke Elphingstone, Brockton Smith, Nolan Church, Aidan Lemorande, Olivia Cummins, and Mia Deye, earned silver.
After all the races concluded, CMU finished 3rd overall. The Team now shifts to the Mountain Bike discipline in their preparation to defend their overall Omnium National Championship title.
