The Colorado Mesa University Cycling Team opened their 2025 mountain bike season at the Western Colorado Mountain Bike Race in Crested Butte, competing across four events over two days from September 13–14. The Mavericks had strong performances in both men's and women's divisions, with several riders earning top five finishes.
Day 1 featured Downhill and Cross-Country events. In Men's A Downhill,
Thomas Allison placed second, Evander Hughes took fourth, and Max Brown finished fifth. The Women's A Downhill saw
Maylei Leaneagh take first,
Susannah Shaub finish second, and
Meghan McDonough place fifth. In Men's A Cross Country,
Kai Lokey led the Mavericks with a first-place finish in 1:08:36, while
Vaughn Veenendaal earned fifth.
Day 2 featured Short Track and another round of Downhill. In the Men's A Short Track, Colin Oneil finished first in 19:51,
Landon Dendy came in third, and
Garrett Beshore placed fourth. The Women's A Short Track saw
Chloe Fraser take first, with
Riley Huston in third.
In the Day 2 Men's A Downhill, Evander Hughes earned fourth, and
Alex Lein finished fifth. On the women's side,
Maylei Leaneagh took second,
Susannah Shaub placed fourth, and
Meghan McDonough again finished fifth.
Overall, the Mavericks had a strong start to the mountain bike season. With multiple first-place finishes and several top five results, CMU mountain bikes are back on the road again September 19, as they head to Colorado School of Mines.
