COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Mesa was announced the winner of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Sports Cup following a strong academic year that included a top-10 finish in the Learfield Cup standings and seven RMAC regular season championships.
The Mavericks 918.5 points gave them their first cup since the 2014-15 academic year and halted a string of eight straight wins by the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers who finished second with 895 points. This is the third All-Sports Cup win for the Mavericks as they went back-to-back in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
Points are awarded based on institutional finishes during the regular season (or tournament/championship based on sport) in the RMAC sponsored sports. Schools must use scores from four core sports which include football or men's soccer, volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball along with three wild card sports for men and three wild card sports for women.
Colorado Mesa scored 367.5 points in the four core sports, 284 points in women's wild card sports (softball, outdoor track & field, and golf) and 267 points in men's wild card sports (indoor track & field, outdoor track & field, and baseball).
UCCS (775.0) finished in third place, CSU Pueblo (751.0) in fourth place and Western Colorado (640.0) to finish in fifth place to round out the top-5 finishers in the All-Sports Cup standings.
The Mavericks will be presented with the All-Sports Cup at this year's RMAC Hall of Fame Banquet on July 11.
