Mavs dominate CSU Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team continued their domination of CSU Pueblo, defeating the ThunderWolves for the 41st straight time in a streak that goes back 18 years to 2006 by a 7-0 margin on Saturday morning here at the Pueblo Tennis Center.

The Mavericks, who have now defeated the ThunderWolves 50 total times, snapped their 4-match slide with road win and improved to 10-13 while the ThunderWolves slipped to 0-10.

All six Mavericks in action went 2-0 as the Mavs swept the three doubles matches before winning all six singles affairs in straight sets, none of which were closer than 6-4.

CMU surrendered just 23 total games in the 12 singles sets, an average of less than two.

Makenna Livingston and Delia Maier reached the double-figure mark for singles wins with their No. 2 and 6 singles victories, respectively.

Livingston was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Valentina Brienza while Maier dominated Sonrisa Bustamante, 6-1, 6-2 to record her second singles win in as many days while completing the sweep.

Julianna Campos also won for the second straight day, claiming a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Marta Garcia at No. 4 singles to complete the sweep.

Kristen Thomas had the most dominant victory, sweeping Malaya Pendon by a 6-0, 6-1 scoreline.

Freshman Devyn Rodriguez also snapped a 4-match slide with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Mariangel Nunez at No. 3 singles while Issy Coman took down Margot Aebischer by a 6-4, 6-1 margin in the No. 1 singles match as the Mavs clinched the dual with three matches to go.

In doubles, Maier and Thomas were 6-0 winners at No. 3 doubles before Campos and Rodriguez were 6-2 victors in the second flight.  Coman and Livingston then completed the doubles sweep, with a 6-4 victory over Aebischer and Nunez in the top flight, which was the final doubles match of the morning.

The two teams will play again on Friday (Apr. 12) in Grand Junction at the Mavs' Elliott Tennis Center.  First serves are slated for 11 a.m. as the Mavs will wrap up the regular season with three home matches over two days playing Colorado College and MSU Denver next Saturday (Apr. 13).
