COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University's
Timmy Cavarno was named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, it was announced on Thursday afternoon by conference officials.
The redshirt sophomore from Redlands, California was the top RMAC golfer at this week's Midwestern State Invitational in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he tied for tenth out of a field of 92 golfers while leading the Mavericks to a fourth place finish as the top RMAC team on Monday and Tuesday.
He is the first Maverick to win the Golfer of the Week award this season.
Cavarno posted a 54-hole, 3-round total of seven over par 220 and recorded a season best round of 68 in the opening round, making five birdies. He had 11 birdies throughout the tournament, second most in the entire field. He also led the field in par-5 scoring, averaging 4.33 strokes on those holes, playing them in a combined 6-under par.
The Mavericks will continue their season on Apr. 5-6 at the Hot Dirt Desert Shootout, hosted by the Colorado School of Mines in Goodyear, Arizona.
