POCATELLO, Idaho— The Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to NCAA Division I Idaho State University in their spring season opener on Saturday afternoon here inside the Bengals' Reed Gym.
The Bengals, now 2-3 this spring, won all nine matches without losing as set as the Mavericks fell to 2-2 overall after going 2-1 in team play during the fall season in September.
In doubles, the Mavericks' best effort came in the second flight as
Julianna Campos and
Devyn Rodriguez took Kazakhstan's Stefanya Shalakhova and Asem Shoybek the distance before falling 7-3 in the tie-breaker. The Bengals also claimed 6-3 and 6-0 doubles wins on Courts 1 and 3 to sweep their way to the opening team point.
In singles, Maverick junior
Makenna Livingston dropped a tough 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) decision to Shoybek at N. 2 singles before
Kristen Thomas fell 7-5, 6-1 to Megan Lang-Gould in the No. 5 singles match, the last to finish up.
The Bengals were more dominant in the other four singles affairs dropping just eight games in the eight total sets.
The Mavericks will look to get back to winning ways on Sunday afternoon when they face The College of Idaho Yotes, an NAIA squad out of Caldwell.
