COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference released their men's basketball offensive and defensive players of the week this Monday for week seven of the season with Colorado Mesa University's Christopher Speller earning honors as the defensive player of the week.
Speller earns this honor from his play two weeks ago when the Mavericks went 2-0 at the River City Holiday Classic in San Antonio, Texas with victories over University of Central Oklahoma and Pittsburg State University.
In those two games Speller accumulated 17 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and added five steals to help the Mavs break their four-game losing streak and now own a two-game winning streak.
In the Mavs' game against University of Central Oklahoma, Speller recorded his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. He averaged over 30 minutes in the two games to help lead the team going into their holiday break.
This is the first time in Speller's career that he has earned player of the week honors and the first time that a Mav has been named a player of the week this season.
Earning offensive player of the week was Biko Johnson from Fort Lewis College.
