Colorado Mesa claims second straight RMAC All-Sports Cup

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second consecutive season, Colorado Mesa University claimed the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Sports Cup as announced by the conference office on Tuesday (June 17).

The RMAC All-Sports Cup recognizes the top overall athletic department through athletic excellence in the RMAC sponsored regular season championships. This will be the fourth time overall that the Mavericks have taken home the All-Sports Cup since it was awarded following the 1992-93 season.

The Mavericks amassed 854.7 points to claim this season's cup which included 349.7 points from the core sports of football, volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball which was 90 points higher than runner-up Mines. Colorado Mesa picked up 274.0 points in the women's wildcard category (Women's Soccer, Women's Swimming & Diving, Softball, Women's Indoor Track and Field, and Women's Outdoor Track and Field) while garnering 231 points from the men's wildcard category (Baseball, Men's Outdoor Track and Field, Men's Indoor Track and Field, Men's Swimming and Diving, and Wrestling).

Colorado Mesa won five regular season conference women's basketball, women's swimming and diving, men's swimming and diving, men's lacrosse and baseball which helped contribute to that total. The Maverick women's lacrosse team also won a share of the RMAC Title for the second time in program history.

Colorado School of Mines was the runner-up with 838.5 total points followed by CSU Pueblo with 822.5, UCCS with 793.5 and Western Colorado with 706.0 to round out the top-5 finishers.

The all-sports competition is determined by awarding points based on each institution's team's place of finish during conference championship play. Teams must count their points in four conference core sports: football or men's soccer, volleyball, men's basketball, and women's basketball. Then, six additional sports will be counted toward an institution's total, with the top three men's finishes and top three women's finishes by points awarded counted. For teams that award a regular-season title, points are awarded based on a team's finish in the regular season. For sports that do not award a regular-season title, points are awarded based on a team's finish in their respective RMAC Championship.

Colorado Mesa will be presented the All-Sports Cup at the RMAC Hall of Fame & Awards Banquet on Thursday, July 10 at the Colorado Springs Marriott.
