SPEARFISH, S.D.— Shannon Feran won the individual title to lead the Colorado Mesa University Maverick women's triathlon team to a second place team finish at Sunday's Black Hills State Tri-Fest.
The Mavericks had four women and two men compete in the race, which included a 500-meter pool swim, a 25-kilometer bike and 5K run segment.
Feran clocked a time of 1:16:35 to win by 36 seconds.
Meanwhile,
Ashlyn Hicken finished 11th with a time of 1:26.53 while Torin Lacman took 12th in 1:28.12.
Fiona Graves rounded out the CMU women's contingent, placing 14th in 1:30.21.
Alex Lineberger (1:26.03) and Doyle Young (1:37.07) raced for the CMU men's club team.
The host Yellow Jackets scored 60 team points while the Mavs tallied 56. Cal Poly-Humboldt was third with 42 while MSU Billings was fourth with 17. Scores were calculated based on finishes of the top three finishers for each team. Feran scored 22.
