GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team completed the final round of the RJGA Palm Valley Classic on Saturday (Apr. 1) at Palm Valley Golf Club. The tournament featured 23 schools and 11 of those schools are ranked in the GolfStat top-50 national rankings.
 
Colorado Mesa had another solid round but not quite as good as yesterday's sub-300 round. They shot a 14-over, 302 on Saturday to close with a 23-over, 599 for the tournament which put them in third place and ahead of eight national ranked opponents.
 
The Mavericks trailed only No. 40 Colorado Christian and No. 8 West Texas A&M in the team race. The Buffs defeated the Cougars in a one-hole team playoff for the title as both shot 10-over, 586 for the tournament.
 
Cassidy Phelan and Elly Walters both finished in the top-10 on the individual leaderboard. Phelan finished the day at 2-over, 74 and 4-over, 148 for the tournament to finish in a tie for ninth place. She had four birdies against six bogeys in today's round.
 
Walters shot 3-over, 75 for the final round and finished the tournament at 3-over, 147. That put her in a tie for sixth place four strokes off the individual medalist for the tournament.
 
Brittlynn O'Dell had a solid final round as she shot 4-over, 76 and was a counter as the Mavericks No. 3 golfer.
 
No. 74 Sofia Benavides of Oklahoma Christian earned medalist honors with a 1-under, 143 for the tournament.
 
The Mavericks will be back in action at the RMAC Championships later this month.
