HENDERSON, Nev. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team opened their spring season on Thursday (Mar. 9) at the Warrior Invitational, hosted by Winona State, at The Legacy Golf Club. The tournament features seven teams across several organizations including NCAA Division I.
The Mavericks sit in third place after the first round of 32-over, 320. They are nine strokes behind leader the University of British Columbia Okanogan who shot a first round of 23-over, 311. They are just one stroke behind host Winona State.
Cassidy Phelan leads the Mavericks and the tournament overall after one round. She shot a 2-over, 74 which included three birdies and five bogeys in her round. After opening with four pars, she birdied No. 5 and No. 6 before bogeying No. 7 and No. 8 to enter the turn at even-par.
The sophomore bogeyed No. 10, No. 12, and No. 16 before rebounding with a birdie and a par on No. 17 and No. 18 respectively to close out her first round.

th place on the individual leaderboard after a first round score of 8-over, 80.
The Mavericks are paired with Fraser Valley, Winona State and UBC Okanogan in tomorrow's second round which is set to begin at 10:40am pacific.
