TEMECULA, Calif. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team finished the San Marcos Shootout at Temecula Creek Inn golf course on Tuesday (Mar. 28) afternoon.
The Mavericks had a drastic 17 shot improvement from day one to day two, by far the largest improvement by any team in the field. They finished with a 633 and in sixth place on the team leaderboard as they moved up four spots from day one to day two. They wound up just two strokes outside a top four finish.
Round one leader Simon Fraser won the team title with a 610 over the two rounds as they finished two strokes in front of No. 13 Point Loma and No. 8 and host Cal State San Marcos.
Sophomore
Cassidy Phelan led the Mavericks in round two with a 2-over, 74 in her second and final round to finish the tournament in a tie for 10
th place on the leaderboard. She had two birdies against four bogeys on the day while playing the front nine to an even-par, 36.
Senior
Elly Walters had a 12-stroke improvement from round one to round two as she fired a 3-over, 75 on Tuesday.
Point Loma's Alli Kim, ranked No. 3 in the GolfStat individual rankings, won the individual medalist honor with a 2-over, 146.
Quick turnaround for the Mavericks as they will compete on Thursday at the Palm Valley Classic in Goodyear, Ariz.
