Phelan Wins Warrior Invite; Paces Mavericks to Second Place Finish

HENDERSON, Nev. – Colorado Mesa's Cassidy Phelan earned the medalist honor and led the Mavericks to a second-place finish at the Warrior Invitational on Saturday (Mar. 11) at The Legacy Golf Club.
 
Phelan finished with a three-round score of 15-over, 231 as she held on to the lead after a final round of 84. During the third round, there were on two scores under 80 as conditions deteriorated throughout the round.
 
The sophomore had eight pars and 10 scores of bogey or worse but again managed the course well enough to come away with medalist honors.
 
Her teammate, Elly Walters, was one of the two golfers that managed a score of 80 or better as she fired a 7-over, 79 in her final round to finish in a tie for second. The Rifle product had three birdies, six bogeys and one dreaded 4-over hole.
 
Colorado Mesa finished seven strokes behind UBC Okanogan in the team race with a three-round score of 960. They managed to hold off Winona State and NCAA Division I Detroit Mercy in the tournament field.
 
The Mavericks will be back in action on March 20 at the CSU Pueblo Pack Classic at Walking Stick Golf Course.
