Colorado Mesa is excited to announce St. Mary's Medical Center, now part of Intermountain Health, is the exclusive healthcare sponsor of the CMU Cycling team. This partnership supports funding across all four disciplines of Track, Mountain Bike, Cyclocross and Road as the CMU Cycling program just claimed their 17
th Team National Championship. With St. Mary's support, the 65 CMU Cycling student athletes are able to compete in 20 events from California to South Carolina.

"With St. Mary's support, I and the rest of the team have had incredible opportunities to race at some of the highest levels across the country. Not only have I benefited from St. Mary's contributions on the competition side of the program, but I have also benefited as a student in the nursing program. I have had incredible clinical experiences within the hospital across the street from campus. Having a local organization contribute to the program's success both on and off the bike is a great example of just how impactful local sponsorships can be here in this valley," said Junior Henry McAlvanah.

"We have a great history of partnering with Colorado Mesa University and are excited to extend that to the cycling team," said Bryan Johnson, president of St. Mary's Medical Center. "Both organizations are passionate about improving the health of our community through education and wellness."
The 25-year-old CMU Cycling program has a record of 81 individual National Championships, 17 Team discipline National Championships and 6 overall Omnium National Championships. The success in 2022-23 marks the first time in CMU Cycling history that the program has won 1
st in all four disciplines. This brings the tally up to the 3
rd consecutive year that the program has achieved the overall omnium award as the premier Varsity Collegiate Program in the country.  The CMU Cycling team is composed of 65 student-athletes that currently holds a cumulative 3.5 GPA and received 22 of the 80 All-American Academic honors last year. Since the inception of the CMU Cycling program in 1998, the team has represented students from South Africa, Germany, New Zealand, Colombia, Norway, Sweden, Canada, Mexico & USA.

USA Cycling is a stand-alone organization outside the NCAA. USA Cycling's preview consists of Junior Cycling, Club Collegiate, Varsity Collegiate, Professional, Para and Master's level events. When our CMU students are not racing at collegiate races, they represent their professional teams in races around the world. Outside of the Varsity Collegiate season, one-third of the CMU cyclists compete professionally.

"
I am beyond proud of this program and the accomplishments of these student-athletes & coaches. CMU Cycling has established a tradition of excellence as the premier university of choice for collegiate cyclists looking for an education and path after college.  Cycling isn't just a race or category or type of bike, it's a way of life for the student-athletes of Colorado Mesa University. These students are passionate caretakers of this lifestyle, amplifying our community, university, and state of Colorado. This sponsorship with St. Mary's will support the student athletes on this team with a top-notch experience. I want to thank the president, Bryan Johnson for believing in this program and supporting the best collegiate athletes in the country," said Assistant Athletic Director, Reese Kegans.
