SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – Sophomore
Cassidy Phelan shot a 3-over, 75 to finish in a tie for second at the Westminster Wasatch Invitational on Tuesday (Sept. 27) afternoon at Glenmoor Golf Club.
Phelan finished the 54-hole tournament with a 4-over, 220 which ranks as the top score in program history over 54 holes. She eked ahead of Ashlyn Kirschner who shot a 220 at the RMAC Championships during the 2018-19 season.
In her round on Tuesday, the Las Vegas native made four bogeys with one birdie which came on the par-4, No. 4 hole. She finished second in the tournament on par-5s, shooting a 2-under and averaging 4.83 strokes on those holes.
Elly Walters finished in 16
th place on the leaderboard with a 14-over, 230 for her three-round score. She shot a 5-over, 77 in today's final round with two birdies, five bogeys and a double.
Crystle Querol finished one stroke back of her teammate Walters for a tie for 17
th place.
The Mavericks wound up in third place in the team standings with a 54-hole score of 922 which ranks as the third best 54-hole team total in program history. They finished behind RMAC foe Colorado Christian and team champion Tampa.
Ana Maria Jiminez Rios of Tampa won the individual medalist honor with an even-par, 216 for her 54 holes.
Colorado Mesa will be back in action on October 10 at the Samuel Proal Farmers Insurance Invite in Pueblo at Pueblo Country Club.
