PUEBLO, Colo.— Tyler Landen and
William Leschig each went 3-1 at the top of the Maverick lineups but were not enough for the Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team, which dropped its first two duals of the season on Friday to Lone Star state and Lone Star Conference opponents here during Pueblo Duals action at the Pueblo City Park Tennis Complex.
The Mavericks fell 6-1 to St. Mary's in the morning match before dropping a 5-2 decision to UT Permian Basin in the afternoon.
Landen and Leschig paired No. 1 doubles in each dual. Both claimed a singles win as well.

Against the Rattlers, who qualified for last year's NCAA Division II Tournament, Landen and Leschig posted a 6-4 win over Oskar Irdoja and Jake Faryniarz in the top doubles match. However, the Rattlers were able to take the doubles point thanks to wins at No. 2 and No. 3. The third-flight victory was by a 7-2 margin in the tiebreaker.
In singles, Leschig gave the Mavs their only team point with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Nicolas Llosa at No. 2.
Jamison Pfingston also won the first set of his No. 6 singles affair with St. Mary's Sebastian Azcui in a tiebreaker, before the Rattler came back to take the second, 6-2 before winning the match tiebreaker, 10-4.
The Rattlers other four singles wins were in straight sets, although four of the eight sets in those matches were decided by 6-4 margins. Another one was settled, 7-5.
The Mavericks did win a pair of exhibition singles sets as
Henry Scheck and Jandre van Wyke both claimed 8-7 wins in tiebreakers.

Leschig was not quite as lucky, falling to Kosinski in a hard-fought, 3-setter. Both of the first two sets were decided in tiebreakers before the overall match was determined, ten points to seven.
Jorge Abreu also fell in three sets in his No. 4 singles match.
He and
Emil Hultman also won an exhibition doubles match.
