SPARKS, Md.— Colorado Mesa University face-off specialist
Dylan Checketts was named as an honorable mention all-American by
USA Lacrosse Magazine, which has announced its Division II men's all-America honors, highlighting the top performers during the 2022 season.
The Maverick sophomore from Herriman, Utah was the only Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference player selected and comes after he recorded a .724 face-off winning percentage, the second best mark in the Division II statistics while helping lead the CMU to a share of the RMAC's Regular Season Championship and the RMAC Tournament title.
Checketts, who was also a First Team All-RMAC selection, also led the RMAC by a wide margin with 124 goals and was tabbed as the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week three times this season. He was also tabbed as the RMAC's Academic Player of the Year and as the RMAC's Summit Award Winner for having the highest GPA (4.000) of any student-athlete at the RMAC Championship tournament.
His face-off winning percentage, the result of winning 231 of his 319 draws, is the third highest in program history for those with 100 or more face-off attempts in a season. Checketts' ground ball total also ranks him third in the CMU single-season records.
The Mavericks finished the 2022 season with a 14-4 overall record and went 5-1 in RMAC play to earn their fifth RMAC title in the last six completed seasons before winning their fourth RMAC Tournament title in that same span.
