PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team competed in the Farmers insurance Samuel Proal Invitational today (Oct. 10) at Pueblo Country Club and hosted by CSU Pueblo. The Mavericks currently sit in third place in the ten-team event with one round to play.
 
Colorado Mesa shot a 20-over, 308 in the opening round and are just one stroke behind second place UCCS who shot a 307. Tournament host CSU Pueblo leads the tournament with an 11-over, 299.
 
Senior Elly Walters shot a 2-over, 74 in her opening round to currently sit in a tie for third-place. Walters had a tough start to the day as she opened with three straight bogeys before her first of four birdies in the round. She finished the day shooting 1-under in her final nine holes.
 
Cassidy Phelan and Crystle Querol each shot a 5-over, 77 in their opening round and are in a tie for 11^th place.
 
Zoey Rodriguez of CSU Pueblo leads the individual leaderboard with a 1-under, 71.
 
The second and final round of the tournament is slated to begin tomorrow morning.
