ALLENDALE, Mich.— Competing in weather conditions that featured temperatures in the 40s and high winds, Colorado Mesa University high jumper
Justin Thompson finished in a tie for tenth at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Thompson was the only Maverick competing on Day 2 of the 3-day meet, which runs through Saturday here on the campus of Grand Valley State University.
The Carbondale, Colorado native cleared 2.00 meters (6 feet, 6 ¾ inches) on his second attempt at that height, the opening height for the field of 13 before going out at 2.05 meters (6-8.75).
Texas A&M-Commerce's Ushan Perera won the competition with a clearance of 2.17 meters (7-1.5) edging two other jumpers on tie-breaking procedures.
The Mavericks will have four athletes compete on Saturday in women's high jumper Josie Coffey, men's triple jumpers
Gunner Rigsby and
Spencer Purnell and men's 1,500-meter runner
Tony Torres.
