GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Head women's soccer coach,
Megan Remec announced the addition of three student-athletes who will join the program this upcoming Fall.
The group consists of two goalkeepers and a defender, replacing the trio of Maverick goalkeepers,
Emily Signorio,
Jessica Jolley and
Kamrie Gunderson, while adding to the strong defensive line.
Maria Martinez makes her way to the Western Slope from Colorado Springs. The goalkeeper out of Liberty High School, helped the Lancers win their respective league in 2019, earned Second Team All-State and First Team All-League as a keeper.
"I chose Colorado Mesa because I fell in love with the campus environment and the team had a great atmosphere," said Martinez. She plans to study Engineering and drafting while at CMU, and enjoys playing soccer and painting in her free time.
COACH REMEC ON MARIA:
"We're excited to welcome Maria to the CMU soccer family. Maria comes to CMU having trained and competed at a high level at Pride Soccer Club in Colorado Springs and against strong ECNL competition. She is an explosive and athletic goalkeeper and has developed a sound technical base across many aspects of her game. Her drive and motivation will help push her to excel as a collegiate athlete."
Mackenzie Armstrong is a defender making her way from the Pacific Northwest, coming out of Skyview High School in Vancouver, Washington. Armstrong capped off her high school career as a 4-time Scholar Athlete and Varsity letterman. In her senior season, she was voted Most Valuable Player and contributed to the offense scoring a career high six goals.
"When I came to Colorado Mesa, I instantly loved the campus and Grand Junction and all the coaches and players that I met were very welcoming," said Armstrong. She aspires to go into medical research, focusing on either toxicology or epidemiology, or become a geneticist. Outside of soccer, she enjoys outdoor activities, painting and drawing.
COACH REMEC ON MACKENZIE
"We can't wait to welcome Mackenzie to Colorado in the fall. Mackenzie has played with several strong clubs in the Northwest, including Eastside Timbers and Washington Timbers Soccer Clubs. She is a smart player who reads the game well, has a technical base to help initiate attacks, and can play multiple positions on the field."
Rounding out the signees is Angelique Siguenza who makes her way to Colorado from Las Vegas, Nevada. Siguenza comes out of Green Valley High School, and adds to the Mavericks goalkeeper lineup. In her time as a Gator, she took home the Varsity Athletic Award, Coaches Award, Athlete of the Month and Scholar Athlete, landing on the All-State Academic Team. She recorded seven shutouts in 10 games last season, earning her All-Desert Region.
"I chose Colorado Mesa because of the welcoming staff and players. They also offered the major I was seeking and is close to home," said Siguenza. Planning to major in Sports Management, she aspires to be a sport marketer and work for a college or professional sports team. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, snowboarding, biking and playing spikeball.
COACH REMEC ON ANGELIQUE
"We're happy to be able to add both a person and goalkeeper of Angelique's quality to our program. Angelique is hard-working, commands her box well, and will add natural talent and athleticism to the goalkeeper position. She is a positive and energetic individual and will be a great addition to our roster."
The Siguenza, Armstrong, and Martinez join Olivia Devine and Mira Houck who signed with the Mavericks earlier this spring. Read about them
