GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Led by a school-record setting triple jump by
Gunner Rigsby and strong efforts in the hurdles and sprints, the Colorado Mesa University Maverick men's track and field team had a solid day on Saturday as they won three more events at the Maverick Multi & Open, the largest ever home-meet in CMU history, held at the Mavs' new on-campus facility.

Rigsby turned in a mark of 15.27 meters (50 feet, 1 ¼ inches) to cap the day. That mark bested teammate
Spencer Purnell's mark of 15.04 meters (49-4.25) set in CMU's first home meet of the 2021 outdoor season two weeks ago. Rigsby finished second overall and as the top collegiate finisher while Purnell turned in another solid effort of 14.79 meters (48-6.25) to finish fourth.

Rigsby now ranks fourth nationally and leads the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference performance list. Rigsby is second in the conference and eighth nationally.

Elsewhere, the Mavericks swept the hurdling events, going 1-2 in both.

In the 110-meter event, freshman
Zayden Davis posted a winning an track-record setting time of 14.93 seconds to rank third in school-history.Â
Nate Hanson was just behind in 15.03 and now sits fourth in Maverick lore. They also rank fifth and seventh in the RMAC this season.

In the 400-meter hurdles,
Casey McDaniel claimed victory in 55.29 seconds to take over the No. 2 spot in program history. Davis was second in 56.45 and now ranks sixth. Hanson also broke into the CMU top 10 with a time of 58.12 seconds, which was good for fifth place on the day.

In the 100-meter dash,
Elijah Williams ran to a time of 10.63 seconds, the fastest in CMU history. However, it was a wind-aided mark and is not eligible for the school or track-record.Â
Beau Thornton also blazed to a time of 10.76 seconds to take third while
Jeremiah Wilson finished fourth in 10.83 seconds. Thornton also posted the eight fastest legal time in CMU history in the 200, placing fourth in 22.33 seconds, just ahead of fifth place and the now No. 10 ranking Wilson (22.40). Williams does sit fourth in the RMAC with his altitude-adjusted time of 10.66 seconds.

The Mavericks also had a solid day on Friday as
Tony Torres set a school-record time of 14:29.75 to win the 5,000 meters in thrilling fashion. He ranks 10
th nationally with his altitude-adjusted mark of 14:09.13. Freshman
Triston Charles also posted a sub 15-minute clocking of 14:59.98 to take over the No. 4 spot in program history for that discipline.

Other highlights of the meet included:
- In the 400 meters, Austin Reese finished fifth in 49.98 seconds to rank eighth in program history.
- Peter Martin took a big early lead of his 1,500-meter heat before hanging on for a time of 4:04.76 to move into the No. 6 spot in CMU history.
- Kevin Frye finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.90 seconds, just missing out on a spot in the CMU top 10 after Davis and Hanson jumbled the order.
- Reese, Jake Valdez, Casey Sharpe and Kelsey Montague posted a time of 3:21.64 to finish second in the 4x400-meter relay. That time is eighth fastest in CMU history.
- Justin Thompson cleared a NCAA provisional qualifying height of 2.08 meters (6-9.75) in the high jump equal to the best on the day. He placed second on a tie-breaker with the mark, just off his season-best of 2.11 meters (6-11), which ranks him eighth nationally.
- Thompson also turned in a mark of 14.10 meters (46-3.25) to rank fourth in program history in the triple jump and leapt a solid 6.90 meters (22-7.75) to finish third in the long jump.
- Hayden Riley finished third in the discus throw on Friday with a throw of 47.74 meters (156-7) to move into the No. 5 spot in CMU history. He also sits third in the RMAC this season.
- Fellow thrower Brock Murphy took third in the hammer throw at 53.33 meters (175-0) to take over the No. 2 spot in CMU lore. He now ranks fifth in the RMAC.
- Nathan Sanches finished Friday night's 10K in 32:19.30 to take over the No. 6 spot in CMU history. Ian Cropp turned in a time of 33:33.30 and now sits ninth for that discipline.
