ALAMOSA, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University women dominated the sprints claiming victory in the 60, 200 and 400-meter dash as well in the high jump, the highlights of the day for Maverick indoor women's track & field team, which racked up 16 total top-5 five finishes on Saturday at the Adams State Grizzly Open here in the High Altitude Training Center.
In the 400 meters, redshirt sophomore
McKenna Molder solidified her No. 3 position in program history with a time of 57.28 seconds. With the altitude and track-size adjustments, her time adjusted to 56.74 seconds and leads the RMAC by nearly a full second.
Meanwhile,
Jade Wimmer finished third in 59.06 seconds in the 400 meters to take the No. 6 spot in program history. Fellow freshman
Sophie Lindauer also fared well, finishing fifth with a time of 1:01.01. Wimmer now sits fourth in the RMAC with a converted time of 58.50 seconds.
In the 60 meters, the Mavericks had six of the eight finalists as
Sierra Arceneaux edged teammate
Rachel Crutcher by four one-thousands of a second for the win. Both had official times of 7.76 seconds in the finals after running slightly faster in the preliminaries. Arceneaux finished 7.71 while Crutcher was clocked in 7.75.
Shaya Chenoweth placed fourth in 8.04 seconds.
However, Crutcher got the best of her teammate in the 200, winning in 25.73 seconds. Arceneaux was second in 26.05 seconds while Molder took fourth in 26.30 seconds. Crutcher (25.48) and Arceneaux (25.80) sit third and seventh, respectively, in the RMAC with their converted times.
In the field and a day after setting the Maverick record and RMAC-leading effort high jump at Friday's Western Slope Challenge, freshman
Josie Coffey won for the second straight day, clearing 1.57 meters (5 feet, 1 ¾ inches).
Some other highlights of the day for the CMU women included:
- Kiana Jackson finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.44 seconds after running her preliminary heat in 9.17 seconds to move up one spot to eighth in program history. She now sits seventh on the RMAC performance list with an altitude-adjusted time of 9.21 seconds.
- Sydney Trichler placed fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.32, finishing just ahead of Amber Valdez, who placed sixth in 2:25.27
- Kaley St. Peter took second in the long jump as both she and teammate Mica Jenrette leapt 5.19 meters (17-0.5).
- Freshman Meleeah Holmes-McKown placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 11.17 meters (36-7.75)
- Freshman Kira MacGill posted a time of 10:50.25 to finish third in her 3,000-meter debut. That time ranks her sixth in CMU history and with the conversions that lowers it to 10:13.65, ranks her seventh in the RMAC with the conversions.

The Mavericks will resume their brief season next Friday and Saturday in Colorado Springs, competing at the Colorado Running Company UCCS Open.
