COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Six different Colorado Mesa University men scored team points while six others advanced to the finals in the shortest events of indoor track and field to lead the Mavericks' efforts on day one of the Colorado Running Company UCCS Open on Friday here at the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse.
The Maverick men also set four new marks on their program's all-time top 10 performer charts and stand in fourth place of the team standings with 27 points through six scored events.
Three of those new top-10 marks came in the 5,000 meters and two were set by freshman.
Triston Charles now ranks second in CMU history after he finished fourth in 15 minutes, 31.73 seconds. Fellow freshman
Ethan Abbs also moved up two spots to fifth in program history as he finished sixth in 15:34.17.
Ian Cropp finished 11
th in 16:03.07 and now ranks tenth in Maverick history.
The Mavericks would garner nine team points in the weight throw as
Brock Murphy finished third with a toss of 17.10 meters (56 feet, 1 ¼ inch) to move into a tie for fourth on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's season-long performance list. Teammate
Hayden Riley finished with a throw of 14.97 meters (49-1.5) and now ranks tenth by himself in program history.
In the 200 meters,
Ty Grant finished fourth with a time of 22.97 seconds.
Kade Christensen finished sixth in that event after finishing in 23.11 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Mavericks qualified four men for Saturday's 60-meter hurdle finals.
Zayden Davis (8.49) won his heat and qualified second overall.
Nate Hanson (8.60),
Carl Heide (8.63) and
Kevin Frye (8.90) also advanced on time as the No. 4, 5 and 7 finishers, respectively.
Elijah Williams also won his heat of the 60-meter dash in 6.91 seconds and qualified third. Grant also qualified for the finals after running a time of seven seconds flat.
