COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Mica Jenrette turned in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's best pentathlon score of the season and set an NCAA provisional qualifying point-total of 3,387 points to lead the Colorado Mesa University women's indoor track and field team on Friday at the Colorado Running Company UCCS Open here at the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse.
Jenrette's point total, which moves her up to second in program history, will rank her as high as 12
th nationally dependent on other results from the day and was keyed by a winning 800-meter time of two minutes, 24.16 seconds, a mark that moved her into the No. 8 spot of CMU history for that discipline.
Elsewhere,
Shaya Chenoweth recorded another NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying mark, the first of her career, as she finished third in the long jump with a leap of 5.71 meters (18 feet, 8 ¾ inches) to move into the No. 3 spot of program history. Teammate
Chian DeLoach, who ranks second on that all-time chart, placed fourth with a season-best mark of 5.63 meters (18-5.75).
In the throws, freshman
Meleeah Holmes-McKown placed sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 14.79 meters (48-6.25), which also moves her into the No. 3 spot in program history for that discipline.
The Mavericks also qualified three sprinters for Saturday's 60-meter final and two for the 60-meter hurdle final.
Through seven scored events on day one of the meet, which continues through Saturday, the Mavericks stand fourth out of seven squads in the team standings with 27 team points.
Here are some other highlights of the Mavericks' day:
- Jenrette had a solid overall effort throughout the day, running a time of 9.46 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to finish third in the 12-woman pentathlon field to score 816 points in the opening event. She was also second best in the shot put with mark of 10.15 meters (33-3.25) and fourth best in the long jump with a mark of 5.14 meters (16-10.25).
- McKenna Molder (9.14) and Averie Griffith (9.61) qualified fifth and eighth, respectively, in the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries. Molder won her heat.
- Rachel Crutcher won her heat of the 60-meter dash and qualified second for Saturday's final with a time of 7.66 seconds.
- Chenoweth (7.94) and Haley Golden (7.96) also qualified for the finals, finishing fifth and eighth, respectively in the preliminaries.
- Golden also finished seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 26.51 seconds.
- Lindsay Parsons placed eighth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:54.23, just off her PR of 19:47.25, set in January, 2020.
