Box Score 2 FRESNO, Calif.— Colorado Mesa University tennis players Tegan Hartman, Issy Coman and Maike Waldburger all won consolation draw singles matches on the court while Steven Howe remained in the bracket on Friday here at the ITA West Regional Championships, hosted by Fresno Pacific University.
In the men's singles consolation draw, Hartman defeated FPU's Pablo Zubieta in the Round of 16 by a 6-3, 6-1 margin before defaulting to Howe, who received a pair of walk-over wins to advance to Saturday's semifinal round.
Meanwhile in the women's consolation draw, Coman knocked off 12th-seeded Maria Vittoria Casucci of the Academy of Art, 6-2, 6-2 in the Round of 16. Coman then received a walk-over win in the quarterfinals before bowing out herself.
Waldburger also won a Round of 16 match over teammate Julianna Campos, 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) but was defeated in the quarterfinals by MSU Denver's Ava Neuburger-Higby, who later received the semifinal walk over win Coman.
The Mavericks also had players in the main draws, who were eliminated on Friday.
In women's singles, freshman Makenna Livingston went down to seventh-seeded Arianna Audelo of Point Loma Nazarene in the third round (Round of 16), 6-1, 6-2 but still finished 2-1 in her ITA debut.
Jandre van Wyk and Hartman were also defeated in the men's doubles quarterfinals by third-seeded Tyler Davis and Nabeel Khan of Point Loma Nazarene. The score of that match was 8-4.
Moises Cure and Christian Albrechtsen were also downed in a consolation draw doubles match, 8-5 while Cure and van Wyk dropped Round of 16 consolation draw singles matches.
The tournament is the last of the fall portion of the season for CMU.
