ST. GEORGE, Utah— Colorado Mesa University freshman
Camryn Mullen had game-tying and game-winning RBI singles in the bottom of the fifth and bottom of the seventh innings, respectively, as the Mavericks came from behind to win a 5-4 walk-off decision over the Montana State Billings Yellowjackets after falling by the same score in an international tiebreaker to Cal State Dominguez earlier in the day at the Dixie State Courtyard Classic.
The Friday split leaves the Mavericks with a 2-1 record on the weekend and the young season heading into the final day of the tournament here at the Canyons Softball Complex on Saturday.
Mullen went 4-for-7 at the plate throughout the day and was 3-for-4 in the win over the Yellow Jackets.

The Mavericks also had two come backs against the Toros, who improved to 6-2, as senior
Hailey Hinson hit a fifth-inning solo home run to tie the game after CSUDH had gone up 1-0 on a Jade Loe RBI single in the bottom of the third.
Loe then plated Raquel Jamie for another go-ahead run in the sixth before Maverick sophomore pitcher
Ellie Smith hit a 3-run homer in the top of the seventh to give the Mavericks a 4-2 lead.
However, the Toros responded for two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a passed ball and wild pitch as they sent the game to an extra frame.
Maverick pinch hitter
Taylor Tremelling was then placed on second base to begin the top of the eighth before Toro reliver Alyssa Olague recorded two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 defensive half-inning.
Loe was then placed on second base to begin the bottom half of the inning and would score the game-winning run just two plays later when Dafne Bravo singled to right center field.
Olague picked up the win while CMU's
Paige Adair took the loss after throwing 1 1/3 innings of relief of Smith, who had nine strikeouts in six innings of work.
Bailey Kleespies went 2-for-4 to lead the Maverick offense while
AnnMarie Torres was walked for the 99
th and 100

Loe was 3-for-4 for the Toros.

The Mavericks were the ones to take the early lead in this game as they scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the second thanks to a Hinson RBI single and a Yellowjacket fielding error, their second of the inning, off the bat of
Nicole Christensen.
The 'Jackets, who fell to 5-5 on the season, would pull one run back on a 1-out Brittanee Fisher homer to left in the top of the fourth although Hinson re-extended the Mavericks to 3-1 as she scored Christensen from second in the bottom half of the inning.
Christensen, who scored two runs in the game, had led off that inning with a single through the left side before moving to second on a
Sarah Staudle sacrifice.
However, the Yellowjackets would go on to put up three runs in the top of the fifth as they took a 4-3 lead. They loaded the bases without the benefit of a hit thanks to three free passes as they chased Smith from the game with nobody out.
Pinch-hitter Morgan Quimby then singled to bring in the first run before the 'Jackets scored a second run on a double play to tie the game at 3, a moment before Marin Penney delivered a go-ahead single.
However, the Yellowjackets' lead would be short-lived as Torres hit a lead-off double in the bottom half of the fifth before
Tayah Gerber moved the pinch-running Tremelling to third. Two plays later, Mullen then delivered the first of her two clutch hits to re-knot the game at 4 as Tremelling came across the plate.
Reliever
Shea Mauser, who earned the win, then allowed just one baserunner in the final two innings setting the stage for the Maverick heroics.
Kleespies, who pinch-hit for Mauser in the bottom of the seventh, hit a 1-out double before Mullen plated pinch-runner
Aislyn Sharp with the game-winning run.
Mauser threw three innings and allowed just two hits and a single walk in the victory. Maddy Lincoln went the distance for the Yellowjackets and was tagged with the loss after giving up 11 hits and three earned runs.
Mullen, Hinson and
Brooke Doumer all had multiple-hit games for the Mavericks.
