TEMPE, Ariz.— Freshman
Mazzy Jackson finished fifth individually and led the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks to a fourth place team finish in the Division II portion of Saturday's Women's Collegiate Triathlon National Championships here at Tempe Town Lake North Park.
The Mavericks also had five other finishers amongst the top 20 and were one of just two programs to show such depth in the USA Triathlon sponsored event, which was hosted by Arizona State University.
Jackson finished the race, which included 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike and 5-kilometer run segments, in one hour, nine minutes and 26 seconds. She was the fastest biker in the field, completing the three laps in 36:17.
The next three Mavericks finishers finished within 80 seconds of one another taking 15
th through 17
th place.
Hannah Croasdell finished 15
th in 1:13.49, less than a minute ahead of
Savanna Liedy (1:14.46).
Abigail White completed the group in 1:15.29.
Maggie Simmons was 19
th in 1:16.28 while
Madison Batkiewicz rounded out the top 20 in 1:16.45.
Lindsey St. Laurent was CMU's final finisher in 28
th. She turned in a time of 1:24.14.
As a team, the Mavericks scored 36 points.
Queens (N.C.) won its' fifth consecutive national title with 12 points and had two of the top three finishers. Davis & Elkins took second with 17 points and had the individual champion in Natalia Hidalgo Martinez, who was clocked in 1:06.30. Black Hills State was third with 33 points.
