Box Score 2 GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The No. 14 Colorado Mesa University softball team completed the series sweep of Adams State Sunday (March 5).
CMU won game one 7-4 and game two 9-0.
The Mavericks jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the fourth inning of game one.
CMU scored one run in the second and added three more in the third, including a solo homerun to center field by
Brooke Hodgson.
Sarah Phillis hit a two-run homer to left center field in the fourth.
Adams State scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, and
AnnMarie Torres hit a solo homerun for CMU in the bottom of the fifth.
McKenzie Surface (7-3) struckout seven and allowed four runs on nine hits in six innings for the win.
Andy Hancock threw one scoreless inning in relief.
Mesa exploded for seven runs, on seven hits, five singles, and two errors, in the first inning of game two.
Zoe Pakes highlighted the inning with a three-run homer to left center field.
The Mavericks plated two more runs in the second inning on three singles.
Sarah Phillis led the Mavericks in game two batting 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
Andy Hancock (5-3) earned the win giving up one hit in four innings.
Kimbri Herring gave up one hit in one inning of work.
