DENVER – The Colorado Mesa University men's and women's tennis teams each had one doubles team finish as runner-ups at the Roadrunners Invitational Sept. 20-21.
Spencer Weinberg and
Jordan Lyden finished second in the men's A doubles draw. The duo defeated a trio of Div. I opponents before opting out of the final. Weinberg and Lyden started with an 8-3 win over Nicholas Carpenter and Dillion Launius. They also claimed a pair of victories (8-5, 8-3) over two different teams from Northern Colorado.

Jordan Lyden finished 2-1.
Michelle Philips and
Rachel Grubbs defeated Kristin Jensen and Mariana Hosami of CSU-Pueblo 8-5 in the women's B doubles flight. The duo advanced to the championship after posting an 8-1 win over Rachel Severson and Erica Salhus of Colorado College. The pair fell to Courtney Wright and Megan Bell 8-1 in the final.
Michelle Phillips finished 2-1 in the women's B flight, and
Rachel Grubbs was 2-1 in the women's C singles flight.
Cody Freischlag completed the weekend with a 3-1 mark in men's B singles to win the consolation title.
Trevor Brown won his first three singles matches in the men's C draw before falling 6-3, 6-2 to Jordan Laughnan of Northern Colorado in the championship.
After losing his first set in the men's D flight,
Peter Hartvigsen won his next three matches to take the consolation crown. Â
Ben Schlichting finished 2-1 in the same flight.
Emily Dodson and Kristen Wykert each finished 2-1 in the women's B flight, and Amy Beston was 2-1 in the C flight.
The Mavericks will compete at the ITA South Central Regional Sept. 26-28 in Wichita Falls, Texas.Â
