INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Four Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's golf teams were selected to the NCAA South Central/West Regional Golf Tournament, announced today by the NCAA. The regional tournament will be held May 6-8 at The Home Course in DuPont, Wash.
Colorado Mines received the top seed in the 10-team region, while UC-Colorado Springs earned the fifth seed and automatic bid after winning the 2013 RMAC conference championship. The region is rounded out by No. 8 seed CSU-Pueblo and No. 10 seed Western New Mexico. Colorado Mesa's Brandon Bingaman is one four student-athletes to compete as an individual.
The entire NCAA Division II field consists of 80 teams and 32 additional student-athletes competing as individuals that have been selected to participate in regional competition of the 2013 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships.
At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 20-24, at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa. In addition, the fourth and fifth place teams from both the Central and Midwest Regional and from the South Central and West Regional will advance to the finals. From the South and Southeast Regional, the teams finishing fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh will also advance to the finals. The finals will be hosted by Millersville at Hershey Country Club (East Course).
There will be four regional sites in which two regions will meet and conduct regional tournaments. The regional tournaments will be paired as follows:
Atlantic and East * Central and Midwest * South and Southeast * South Central and West *
Brandon Bio;
Senior Brandon Bingaman will play in his second NCAA Regional Golf Tournament. Bingaman earned a bid as a sophomore. Bingaman, a three-time all-conference honoree, tied for fifth at last week's RMAC Championships. Bingaman had an outstanding senior year registering four Top five finishes, including three second place medals. In seven tournaments this season he placed in the Top 10 in six.
Bingaman is a three-time RMAC All-Academic honoree. As a junior he was named Capital One Academic All-District and named RMAC Academic Player of the Year.
