Mavs set for second tournament

CMU heads to Utah for Wasatch Invitational

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—  Coming off a seventh place finish in their season-opening tournament, the Colorado Mesa University women's golf team will look to improve as they head to South Jordan, Utah  for the Wasatch Invitational on Sunday and Monday.

The Mavericks are on 14 teams who will play in the 36-hole event at the Glenmoor Golf Club.

Westminster University is hosting the event.

Sunday's round will begin at 8:30 with tee times on both the first and tenth holes.

Monday's round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

Live scoring is slated to be available throughout the tournament at the link above.

Last Time Out

The Mavericks posted team scores of 324, 320 and 317 to post a final score of 961 (+97) at the Travis Roy Memorial Invitational which was contested Sunday through Tuesday in Sheridan, Wyoming.

The Mavs were third out of seven RMAC teams in the 12-team field.

Sophomore Hayden Hawley led the Mavericks, tying for ninth place in the field of 67 players with a 54-hole score of 233 (+17).

Recaps of each of the three rounds can be found here: SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY.

The Maverick lineup

Maverick Head Coach Kori Satterfield has decided to use the same six players for the upcoming tournament but has made some changes in the pre-tournament order, which feeds into the pairings.

Satterfield's new order matches the final scores from the Travis Roy Memorial Invitational and will include Hayden Hawley (233), Hunter Gledhill (236), Libby Bourassa (244), Brooke Brekke (253) and Allison Sanger (254) in that order.  McKenzie Dolph will play as an individual after playing in play six/count four team format used at the Travis Roy Memorial Invitational.

Different Leaders

The Mavs had different leaders in each of the three rounds at the Travis Roy Memorial Invitational.

Hunter Gledhill led the Mavs in the opening round, which was suspended due to darkness on Sunday and resumed Monday morning.  She posted a 77 in that round and then finished in a tie for 12th with a 54-hole total of 236 (+20), aided in part to a 76 in Tuesday's final round.

CMU newcomer Allison Sanger, who played at Chadron State for the past two seasons, then took her turn in leading the Mavs in Monday's second round, firing a 78.

Hayden Hawley then posted team's best round in Tuesday's final round, carding a 73 to claim the overall team leadership.

Second Best leads to Third Top Ten

Hayden Hawley's round of 73 on Tuesday was the second best of her now 24 career tournament rounds, only shy of the 71 that she recorded in the second round of last year's season opening tournament.

The sophomore out of Thornton, Colorado had seven rounds in the 70's last year and averaged 81.32 strokes per round as a freshman.

Her ninth place finish was the third top-ten finish of her career.

Homecoming

Maverick junior Hunter Gledhill will be returning to her home state and area for this tournament.  The Herriman, Utah native attended Riverton High School, located just six miles from the course.

Gledhill also played at the 2024 and 2025 editions of the Wasatch Invitational.

As a freshman, Gledhill finished in the top half of the field with a 36-hole score of 156 (+12) and a tie for 24th place finish.  She had one of her best single rounds of the season (75) in the first round.

Last year, she finished in a tie for 36th with a 36-hole score of 162 (+18).

Up Next

After playing two tournaments spanning five days in a matter or just nine days, the Mavericks will have a nearly 2-week respite from competition, before continuing the fall season at the Nick Turner Invitational in Durango.  That tournament will be played on Oct. 5 and 6.
